josh: comic book maker. musician. nerd.

I'm Josh, and I do lots of stuff. This blog will mainly serve as an outlet to talk about all the random crap I do, including but not limited to: writing comics, playing music, attending comic conventions, going to/playing shows, going to too many theme parks, learning to play new instruments, etc.

Any questions? Just ask!

ska music

Ska music is a big part of my life. As a kid, I never listened to a lot of music. I enjoyed the Presidents of the United States of America, and the Toadies, but that was pretty much it. Also, when I was 10, and I saw the movie Clueless, I really liked that scene with the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in it. But my love for ska layed dormant until sometime in high school. In those awkward teenage years, I liked a lot of stupid bands. Mostly nu-metal bands like Korn, Mudvayne, Limp Bizkit, Disturbed, System of a Down. I still like System of a Down though..

Then a friend of mine showed me some ska bands that I instantly fell in love with. Mu330, Blue Meanies, Aquabats, Catch 22, just name a few. It wasn’t long till I joined a ska band, called the Game Show. Terrible band, but it was amusing. Ever since then, I’ve played in a lot of ska bands. People have asked me why I play ska, and I usually tell them, “Because it’s easy.” This is only half true.. ska is very easy to play because it comes so naturally to me. But I also love it to death, and it’s defintiely fun to play.

My musical taste has evolved since then, but I still only play in ska bands. It’ll probably be something that stays with me for a very long time, or until I decide to grow the fuck up. We’ll see…
